With the hottest cross-over movie of the Summer launching, we thought it would be a great time to launch our own cross-over event!
For the next couple of weeks, we will cross-post important updates from the
Government Affairs Community to the larger Emergency Management Community.
Another reason behind this is that the House went on recess at the end of last week, and the Senate will adjourn next week. This means your Congressional Representatives will be back home in their districts through the beginning of September.
In our recent Lunch and Learn on Government Affairs Advocacy Basics, we highlighted that one of the best things you can do to raise awareness about the needs of your program is to invite your elected officials to your EOC for a tour, event, or exercise. Give them a first-hand look at why their support is needed.
When we talk about advocacy, it starts with educating them on what you do, how you do it, and the resources needed to do the job effectively for your community. Then, when they are faced with decisions to make about funding or policies, they will be armed with ground truth and first-hand knowledge. Help them help you.
We are going to use the next couple of weeks to arm you with information on the current status of some programs, policies, and appropriations so that if you get to have conversations with your elected officials, they can be as honest and informed as possible.
As you have conversations with your Representatives or Senators, we would love to hear about it! Let us know with a post in the Government Affairs Community or by sending an email to GovAffairs@iaem.com
