Congressman Becca Balint (D-VT) has introduced the Addressing Addiction After Disasters Act (HR 5623).  Current FEMA grants are authorized to provide professional counseling services to victims of major disasters through the Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCATP). The Addressing Addiction After Disasters (AAAD) Act strengthens the CCATP by allowing FEMA to provide services for substance use disorder and alcohol use disorder.  Here is Rep. Balint's press release.

This bill is under consideration by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for possible markup in September.  If the bill gets favorably reported out of committee during the markup, the bill might get a vote on the House floor before the end of the year.

What are your thoughts on the bill?
